Heron Resting in Kyoyochi Pond
Kyoyochi Pond is located on the grounds of Ryoan-ji Temple, and was created as a water garden in the 12th century. Many types of plants can be found around the pond, including purple irises. Herons are often spotted resting or strolling in the pond. The heron is a symbol of Buddhist meditation as it has a habit of being absolutely still for a long time with its eyes closed.
