The most unforgettable place in Fes was the tannery, where leather is prepared from hides and dyed in different colours. To fend off pungent odours of animal skins and ammonia mixtures, we were given a sprig of mint leaves. Men work in the vats, which hold natural dyes from plants. Pieces of colored leather are then dried in the sun.
